ORGANIZATIONS

Ms. Mitchell is beginning her second term serving on City Council representing District 3. She is a well-known business professional, long recognized for her dedication to community service. Ms. Mitchell has served on several City of Sugar Land committees including: the Finance, the Intra-governmental Relations, and the Economic Development Committees. As a community leader, Ms. Mitchell remains active with a number of community organizations.

Rogelio Garcia-Contreras, Ph.D., is an associate professor of international development and international politics at the Center for International Studies at the University of St. Thomas. He is also the founder and director of the university's Social Entrepreneurship Program, where he conducts research on microfinance, social enterprise, economic development and poverty alleviation. He has authored articles for a variety of journals and is an active member of several professional organizations.

Dr. Marie Goradia is the President of Pratham Houston. Dr. Goradia has a Bachelor's in Chemistry, a Master's in Biochemistry, and a PhD in Molecular Biology from Bombay University. Despite her illustrious resume, Dr. Goradia has always been passionate about philanthropy. Pratham, of which she is the head, is one of the largest non-profits in the world dedicated to providing elementary education in India.

Nadeen is a designated global ambassador for Libya for the World Affairs council in Houston and being the Co-Founder and Organizer of Libyans for Liberty. Nadeen is serving her second year on the Board of Directors and served as the previous Community Outreach Officer for the Libyan American Organization (LAO).

Meena Haque is a Global Citizenship Fellow at the U.S. Fund For UNICEF. Her role is to serve as a grassroots spokesperson on behalf of UNICEF in the Houston and greater Texas community.

Zubaida is regarded as a leader in the field of the design and engineering of low-cost health products appropriate for the developing world. She has a Masters in Engineering from Dalarna University, Sweden, and an MBA from Colorado State University. With over eight years of experience in the social sector, specifically in innovations in health and commercialization, Zubaida now heads Ayzh, (eyes) a social enterprise aiming to increase the income and health of women worldwide.

Dr. Susan Pacheco is a pediatric immunologist/allergist specializing in pediatric asthma, allergy, and immunology. She is affiliated with the Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. She is an associate professor of pediatrics at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School.

Ms. Ana Monzon has a B.A. from A&M University in Political Science. As a U.S. Fulbright Scholar of the Institute of International Education of the U.S. State Department, she researched Brazil's rural development. She worked with various Brazilian universities to research sustainable agricultural development models. She is currently a researcher for the Public Policy Research Institute of A&M University.

Benjamin Thomson is a financial economist in the State Department’s Office of Development Finance located within the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, where he is responsible for coordinating development policy in multi-lateral fora such as the G8, G20, and U.N. He was previously posted overseas in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Nigeria, and domestically as the senior watch officer at the U.S. Nuclear Risk Reduction Center.
